Rushdie & Pynchon

       In a related note, see the interesting interview in the October
Progressive with Salmon Rushdie, in which Rushdie mentions actually meeting
Pynchon--and meeting him, so to speak, as Pynchon (unlike Lotion, say, for
whom Pynchon is just a kind of implausible groupie). The interview has a nice
concluding line. "Just because you don't know what I'm doing," sez Rushdie,
"don't assume I'm not doing it."
