Daylight savings in the U. S. originated with the railroads at the 
end of the 19th century. Given the advances of Harrisons timepiece, 
it was possible for every location to be more or less on its 
particular time. This created enormous headaches for those 
responsible for scheduling. 
The Rail Road companies lobbied successfully to implement the time 
zones we now enjoy. There was apparently little opposition, though 
one can be sure that some of the affected populations developed myths 
around this shift.
