just for the heck of it:
though Delillo doesn't mention it in Underworld, Red Barber, who covered
the Oct 3 game for the Dodgers, Mason-like to Russ Hodges Dixon-like, had
a beautiful little reaction to that Thompson homer: He said in effect
(my words): "It's all perspective, all perspective, there's lots a
families tonight who've just lost a son in Korea, and don't care that
much about the results of an everyday ballgame."
three other obs:
Metalboy--what the hell's a chubby and where can I buy one?
not fair one gets to hear Delillo speak, see Lotion, and get drunk in
that capital of the great satan with other paranoid-pinko sickos all in
the same day. I feel like the Skipper who wasn't invited to Mr Howell's
party...to quote that Aussie band: "Have A Drink on Me"
third. a little stargazer's ditty:
Copernicus in Utica
thought the world round.
they locked'em in Attica
charged him with sciatica,
Now, he never leaves the ground.

nothing unreal exists"
