MDMD(Part1) possible style explanation...?

Okay, okay!  I said "could be".  Seriously though: lemme reread the thing
first and then decide what saving grace, if any, there is for some of the
muddling and length excessive.  [Rushdie's _Midnight's Children_, I always
thought, could have done with a less indulgent editor, so I'm open to that
interpretation, too.]
