Widely read? It was certainly publicly available; the book, as cited, was
published in 1947, some twenty-six years before GR. Perhaps some people
learned of what Sasuly wrote about from GR (although apparently Frank Rich
didn't) and, if so, good. Nevertheless, Pynchon added little or nothing to
Sasuly's information; he found it and used it. So, as a matter of accuracy,
it would be overblown to credit him with putting anything together.
You seem to take my saying that as a slight on Pynchon, or GR, which it is
not.
