Constructive according to you?  The "potshot" at the beginning of this thread
was my clarifying a point you made, and suggesting a source you seemed unaware
of, so far as I could tell from your post.  Further, your comment fell within
a broader context, previously debated on this list, in part by you, i.e.,
Pynchon's reliability as an historian and the relative trustworthiness
generally of history as history vs. history used as texture for fiction.

As to ppetto's contributions, if that's the potshot you refer to, I've already
explained that I think using the list to rattle on about mundane and readily
available information is a tedious mis-use, creates clutter and fatigue, and,
by that, drags the level of discussion downward.  Downward is not a direction
that suits me.
