That stuff's sure-fire, Keith, and thanks for your probing analysis of my
psychological state.

I need not be addressed personally in the annotations to be distressed at
watching a heretofore interesting and lively place of exchange and debate sink
to an on-going and dreary cataloging of commonplace information, aimed to make
Vineland accessible to the dimmest and most ill-informed of "scholars" (who it
seems you and others believe have no access to dictionaries, almanacs,
encyclopedias, and the like).    

Which scholars among you need be told that San Diego is in California?  And
where do you see a line being drawn, if, as you believe, neglecting to record
such facts as "Vietnam is in southeast Asia," would be too discriminatory?  Do
you believe the purpose of useful annotation is served by including every last
bit of trivial data?  

And what, exactly, keeps the curious scholar and poster to this list from
asking who Dick Nixon is?  Must such questions be anticipated?  Apparently you
think so.  I don't.
