Realizing I'm a little late, for what my 2 cents is worth, the annotations are
fine. It helps me remember things I've forgotten (Judy Collins said she likes
to watch "The Doors" so she can remember what happened in the 60s & 70s) or do
not have a clear memory of. Hey, change the channel if ya want to.
On the whole era, being one who lived it as well as in it, there are still
a lot of questions in my mind. VLVL hasn't given me any magical answers, but
it does provoke thinking. As a history grad as well as a law grad, I know one
must wait before one can hazard an intelligent guess as to what an event
means. Arguably,
the meaning or impact of an event or era constantly changes as it moves
through history. One can never be sure of its final impact until history in
over. One can only analyze what it means from the point at which one views it
in the context of what is occurring at the time of the analysis. Sure, there
are some repercussions that are established almost immediately-millions were
exterminated by the Nazis. Who would have guessed the impact their looting
would have on the banking and insurance industries and the claims for
reparations for slave labor and what that labor wrought? What changes will
follow on the heels of this?
So, keep up the annotations-not all of the world gives a hoot about San
Diego, but those who do might not know a lot about it. Anybody out there in
academia know the significance of cities in other countries which appear in
foreign novels? If you encounter them and are curious, you look them up.
That's what is going on here, but you don't have to run all over to find it.
Besides, the discussion is only as intelligent as its least intelligent
participant, if you want true discourse. Oh my God, did I just say a rising
tide lifts all boats? Gotta quit watching those Bonzo movies. They would have
been so much better if the chimp had gotten some support. Merry Christmas-what
the hell is Xmas? I thought that was Kwanzaa. Go figure.
