No no, Sunflower was the first Beach Boys release after they left Capital;
and is the finest "group" album they ever made. It is currently out of
print (although available on digitally remastered bootleg), but is due to
be released late next year.
Smile was the aborted album that would have followed Pet Sounds. It's
legend is humongous and the subject of several books. Remnants from it
appeared on several later Beach Boys albums. You can get a good idea of
where it was headed by listening to the last dozen tracks on disk two of
the Beach Boys box set (Good Vibrations).
