"Two early states of Thomas Pynchon's *Gravity's Rainbow* were the focus of
active bidding.  Rare, long form galleys of this work [New York:  1973]
brought $4,025, and the advanced, uncorrected proofs, New York: [1973]
which preceded publication by at least 3 months, and of which there were
only 25 to 50 copies, sold for $2,875."
