Whether still blows his brains out. Caesar is still betrayed; armies
still amass. These are common themes that reach though our human
history. Intrigue, conspiracy, power disguised by politics, slavery,
genocide, war, what's new? Decorate it with lava lamps, surfboards, rock
and roll, or rocket man- it's still the human theme, and it will last.
Just don't call its name. Pynchon reads just fine to a paranoid gun
toting right wing conspirator, just as it must resonate with his
doppelganger, the twenty year past anti-war activist, precisely because
of the "Absences." Literary device or not, this "Absence" is one of the
things that elevate Pynchon's work into the realm of high literature. It
won't grow cold when the vacuum tubes wink out and bake lite gives way to
PVC. It's not Tom Chancy man... no offence Tom.
