The THEY in Pynchon's is not democracy or any other human creation. The THEY
are forces invisible. Human manifestations of these invisible forces are
evil to the extent that people refuse to acknowledge the multi-dimensional
nature of reality and do not foster a conscious creative interaction among
levels. As we discuss all of the aspects of Pynchon's fiction on this list
the splitting and denial of levels takes the form of arguments about which
things Pynchon believes and which he puts in for entertainment. He fucking
knows that it's all fucking real and he puts it all in there because it is
life in its fullness and totality. And he says in a million ways, "Look what
happens when you draw lines and betray the underlying unity." Us and they,
as opposed to AS ABOVE SO BELOW.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to change my socks.
