P. is the first person I know to have read IJ twice. My condolences P. W/R/T IJ being a better book than Underworld...BULLSHIT, Darcy! Anyway, who cares, A Man in Full is better than both those Big Gulps...and it's loads better than that uber-Gulp of Big Gulps M&D, too (just joking!--M&D's my second favorite TRP next to Slow Learner). And, better than The Executioner's Song, all the Rabbit books, The Bible, and Clarissa.
Also, are we required to only compare behemoths to behemoths or can we compare little moths to behemoths, too? If so, better than all those cudgels is Lorrie Moore's slender volume Birds of America. Derek's analogies have inspired me so...to wit, IJ is to Birds of America as an eighteen-wheeler (with exotic mudflaps) is to a Plymouth Neon, though I'm not sure what makes the Neon intrinsically better, it's just that way..............Jane........
