I can't confirm the above, but remember reading an article in which
Norman Mailer referred to the ending of Crying of Lot 49 as a cop-out,
or something of the sort. I can't do much better than that other than
to say it wasn't a review but an article or interview in which he was
commenting on this and that. It's not much, but it's possible that it
is the source.
