...and I read it like cloning and hybridizing Tom Clancy and Frederick Karl,
because I don't think Karl is nazi enough in his criticism I guess, and then
I really began to get a picture of how wasted was The Hunt for Red October,
because we all know what that really alludes to, don't we? and then sadly I
began to picture Frank Lentricchia in the Sean Connery role, and Vincent
Leitch in the Baldwin brother role, and the Year of the Foster Wallace Lager
began to look pretty tasty, I must say. Background score by the 'Mats,
circa '85 and CBGB's, and Tommy "Strings" Pynchon nowhere to be found,
although if you look really closely you will see Billy "Bass-man" Gaddis
standing in the wings, listening to and playing over and over again very
familiar themes.
