Frankly, i cannot see how this Fall can bring us hope.
A new way of seeing maybe. But as "Dying a weird death" is Pynchon's
conclusin-put-into-Slothrop's-mouth, my idea is that there's no hope. In fact,
there's no meaning in this RocketUniverse we're into of the word "hope'.Maybe
it's a matter of life and death. We live, we die, that's all. Slothrop
confirms us that "we can be heroes just for one day".But when this heroic act
collapses then we've come to realise that he-and us-
we're -we can be- only Spectators of What's Happening.
The only positive and hopeful thing is our acceptance of the role of a simple
Spectator.
Finally, i've come to the conclusion that Slothrop disappears because sooner
or later some of us will appear.
