"My name is Brian. I am a sophomor college student, as you can tell by my
'.edu'. I also
have an aol account. I thought that because I am a college student,
and realizing that my brain is sometimes to small to fit all those complex
ideas Mr. Pynchon puts into his books that maybe I could benefit from
the shared knowledge of other Pynchon acolytes. Or perhaps I feel like
using you all so I can write a swell paper, and maybe even get a 'B' on
it."

anyhow, my college won't attempt to teach anything beyond the crying of
lot 49.
the professors recognize the limits of the students and the ability to
teach pynchon's materials.

i'm reading all of pynchon's work next semester
and i'm not necessarily using pynchon-l as a tit to suppliment my own
literary shortcomings
but i do recognize that i will not be able to understand everything, or
ever half of what
pynchon is achieving in his works
so i hope that no one minds my occasional questions
(and yes, i am researching in library as well - i noticed someone had a
chip on their shoulder about that a few weeks ago)
i only ask to understand - not for a research paper or class
it's all personal fulfillment because i enjoyed lot49 so much last year

i do have a few questions that have sprung to mind as of late, that, if it
doesn't bug the hell out of someone,
i wouldn't mind being answered.

- is the pyncheon family from the house of seven gables trp's?
- why would pynchon use Princess Marie von Thurn und Taxis-Hohenlohe as an
additional source of inspiration
for Thurn and Taxis in Lot49? i came across her name in an introduction
to the vintage edition
of Rilke's poetry, and i know the Duino Elegies make their way into GR.
- i'm wondering if anyone read the article "Thomas Pynchon and Aleatory
Space" by Pierre-Yyes Petillon
and if Petillon pretty well hits it on the spot concerning GR

thanks
brian
