following the links.  He could also spend some time digging through the
archives at http://www.waste.org/mail/?list=pynchon-l -- lots and lots of
answers to questions about all of Pynchon's novels therein. He might also
refer to one or more of the many fine books of literary criticism that have
been written about Pynchon's novels, available at many libraries.
