I didn't think you were totally trashing the book.  Anyway it has a lot of
that sort of thing that seems to fascinate Pynchon such as conspiracies and
leaps in time.  It is written in that sort of Hitchhikers Guide prose that
seems a little dated to us now.
Incidentally I copied you direct instead of to the list..sorry..my LED was
blinking and I went into a sort of fugue state...
