She's obviously thinking of the -noun- 'stranger'. The 'stranger' in
the title of the _Stranger in a Strange Land_ that Pynchon published is a
comparitive adjective. It's about alien retirees battling killer plants in
Florida, and Picador plan to publish it in 2002 (I bought it secondhand
last week).
