Some comments & DFW ("The Name Game")

mmmm. IP addresses. nslookup's a useful tool. as is the waste.org search
program.

however, having established the poster's "identity" surely we're in danger
of spiralling into a tizzy about anonymity when the key issue is flaming.
(i'm not going to uncloak them, but just in case you were hoping, it ain't
DFW or TRP, unless the original "identity" was a cloak as well)

now i happen to have enjoyed steve/jane/ken's flames - i think flaming is a
fine art - but i'm sure doug hasn't.

two thoughts though: one is that the Internet isn't (thank god) the Well -
we all have anonymity (although we also leave some neat audit trails for
those such as care to look for them) and we should enjoy and respect that
anonymity; twio is that the Internet is never going to be a collegiate
debating society - there is no chair to appeal to - a certain robustness is
necessary to get through the day if you're going to express your views in
public.
