I second that. The manic intensity, WWII black comedy and party set pieces
are reminiscent of episodes in the Zone. A meta-subplot wherein an earlier
episode of the movie is reshot as a film within a film is brilliantly
directed, and recalls the cinema/reality paradoxes of GR as well.
Kusturica's earlier 'Time of the Gypsies' is also a must see.
