According to secondary sources (of course...) Pynchon gathered a great deal
of material about the Great War Revisited and the MotherLand as well as life
in general from that aptly titled publication-- Life. Also, checking out
letters sent (during the war) to the London Times (?) proves a worthwhile
cause. Apparently, Pynchon did some fair research therein.
And read The Changing Light at Sandover by James....umm...Merrill?
And listen to Joni Mitchell's "Cactus Tree." And Spike Jones. And the
Fool. Richard Farina's book comes in handy, too. And of course, The White
Goddess.
As for the physics, Dick Feynman's three book set, Lectures on Physics,
should have more than any student should need to know with handy dandy
pictures--and is available in almost every library no less.
And, and...
I'm considering a thesis on Pynchon....I'd be obscenely interested in seeing
what you come up with.

Hope there was something in here worthwhile,
