Don't be so jumpy. What I'm saying here is that he was not "preying on a
black child." Both he and Enzian were in what seemed from the description
to be in love. He Weissman at his arrival to the Southland seems naive and
full of wonder. Somewhere between then and his new love, Gottfreid, he has
transformed into a "pornography" as you call it.

It's as relevant a question as asking if Slothrop is in control of his
actions. The question goes to ancestry and conditioning.

Somehow Weissman got from there to here. Was he different then, or was he
