Seb's comparison of Weissmann to Nabokov's naughty professor got me
thinking about Gustave von Aschenbach in *Death in Venice* as well, and
now that I think of it I recall *The Magic Mountain* figuring in quite a
few of the critical studies of *GR*.
Any takers?
best of the season to all
(Looking for a read for the beach this Yuletide ... quite liked Heller's
*Picture This* though it is ultimately hollow, but it's that same
hollowness that's at the heart of *Catch-22* too, I think. Abish's *How
German Is It* is a tasty treat, not to mention *Alphabetical Africa*.)
