As a former doorman, I must say I did feel stupid in the uniform.
Especially when I had to wear the hat.
The guys I worked with did not seem to resent their lot. It was a pretty
easy job for the money (I think around $10/hr back in 1980). It is a
BORING job but I got a lot of reading done (read _The Idiot_ in record
time)
Christmas tips: I worked for about five months in one building and got
enough in tips at Christmas to buy myself a new double bass. THAT was a
merry Christmas.
