In a recent article, someone makes a compelling case that
Pynchon was influenced by the Pragmatists and their impact
on 1960s political activism. Can't find it online, but a
good introduction is Dewey's "Reconstruction in Philosophy."

on idealism sounds very familiar when reading GR and
Pynchon's youthful statement in his Ford Application
concerning ideals that lead to War.
