I'm not really sure what to say about the VTsK NTA story (I'm thinking
bottom of p. 352 - bottom of p. 354) besides that I think it's one of
the funniest bits in the book. I'm a bit puzzled by Blobadjian's seeming
metamorphosis (p. 355) into a higher being. Is the entity that saves him
from the ululating Arabists a Christian angel? Why does _he_ get to
experience nirvana?

The right-hand, still untasted part of the novel, which,
during our delectable reading, we would lightly feel,
mechanically testing whether there were still plenty
left (and our fingers were always gladdened by the
placid, faithful thickness) has suddenly, for no reason
at all, become quite meager: a few minutes of quick
reading, already downhill, and -- O horrible!
