VLVL(7) Annotations cont.

229.24-5: "fly off to Paris … Fourth International": A
marxist/socialist revolutionary group. See,

http://www.internationalen.se/sp/fi.htm

230.25: "Chi-com style": Chinese command? I've located a rifle that's
named "Chi-com," but haven't found the manner in which this star is
worn. ???

230.34: "Xanthocroid": A fair-haired or fair-skinned Caucasian.

231.35-6: "UHURU": Swahili, "freedom"

232.13: "land of the May Events": ???

232.16: "discover a theorem": Apparently, then, one creates a theorem?

232.30: "California Chenin Blanc": "Chenin Blanc is native to France's
Loire region where the hot climate yields clean, balanced, highly acidic
wines. It is this high acid level that balances the natural sweetness
and allows the wine to age for years. It also tends to bud early and
mature late. In California, 85 percent of Chenin Blanc's 26,300 acres
are found in the hot Central Valley and most of the grapes will be used
for unexciting jug wines. Grapes grown in cooler regions are able to
become more balanced and give off a floral aroma and melon-like tastes.
Coastal wineries will produce Chenin Blanc as part of their varietal
lines. These wines range from dry to medium sweet. About 100 wineries
grow Chenin Blanc, down from 120 in the mid-1980's."

233.4: "BLGVN/US": ???

234.4: "'The Invaders'": "The Invaders is a 60's science fiction
series which originally ran for three seasons. The first episode was
aired January 10th 1967 and the last, March 26th 1968. The Invaders is
very much a period piece, and reflects the public concerns of the time:
Unlike Star Trek, which ran concurrently with it, the Invaders is set in
the present. It draws influence both from America's first missions into
space which made ordinary people think about the possibility of contact
with life from other planets, and also from the paranoia of 'Reds under
the Beds' brought on at the height of the Cold War. The series revolves
around the character of David Vincent (played by Roy Thinnes), who has
discovered that the Earth is being invaded by beings from another
planet. These beings have taken human form, and are virtually
undetectable from human beings."

238.35-6: "the famous worms of song": "The worms crawl in / The worms
crawl out / The worms play pinochle / On your snout / …" Does anyone
know the entire song?

239.14: "ND-1 filters": Frenesi is wearing camera filters as
sunglasses. ND = Neutral Density.

239.28-9: "key log … floated away": Individuals are equated to trees.
The government (DOJ), therefore, is equated to the loggers. The
government/industry theme from P's earlier works would appear to apply.

239.36: "steering committee": ???

240.19-20: "property-room Smith, a Chief's Special": Haven't been able
to locate this gun ???

241.36-242.5: "Light this little … the ghosts": Can anyone explicate
these technical terms? (E.g., "eight to one")

243.28: "Pancho Bandido" Unknown.

243.29: "awkward lotus": CK's friend illustrates the proper form:

244.2: "wind-up Bolex": Bolex produced numerous 16mm hand-held movie
cameras, beginning in the early thirties. Ironically, many of their
hand-helds were designated by the "Rex" series name. See,

http://www.city-net.com/~fodder/bolex/history/index.html

245.15-6: "Marine units from Pendleton": Camp Pendleton is located in
Oceanside, CA (southern CA).

245.33: "Auricon": No doubt another 16mm camera. I haven't found any
sites providing a possible model.

245.34: "Scoopic": 16mm camera.

247.23: "Mole-Richardson series 700 generator": Have not found one of
these generators. The company apparently produces lighting and effects
equipment.

247.28: "Blue Cheer concert": Rockers from 1968-1972. "Taking their
name from an extremely potent batch of LSD, Blue Cheer took the world
(or at least San Francisco) by storm in 1967 when the trio of
self-confessed drug addicts took their penchant for brutally loud music
to a new level, earning them the title of "World's Loudest Band" and
originating heavy metal."
(http://outland.cyberwar.com/~prw//blue_cheer/). Apparently the former
guitarist now does special effects see,

251.11: "Third, or Mesopotamian, Freeway": ???

252.25: "the hour of the rat": If this corresponds to the zodiac, the
rat is the first sign and the hour would therefore be just after
midnight.

254.35: "Hasta la proxima, querida mia": ???

255.13: "Daffy and Bugs": Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny from the Looney
Toons cartoons. The "smooth"ness is perhaps the image of Bugs or Daffy
sneaking up on someone/thing, on tippy toes, shoulders lifted.

257.33: "Quilbasazos": ???

258.14: "Noticias": ???

259.13: "Purple Owsley": Hallucinogen.

http://www.ionet.net/~jcott/homepage/drugdb/029.html

260.34: "Stelazine": Antipsychotic. 5mg = 100 mg of Thorazine. See,

http://www.ionet.net/~jcott/homepage/drugdb/132.html

my Ptolemy in WI, can someone explicate this astrology. If not, I will
on Sunday.

262.37: "delta base": ???

264.2: "Title III intercept": Title III of the Omnibus Crime Control
and Safe Streets Act of 1968 limits the forms of communication
interception that can be legally used by the government and defines the
rights of the citizen with regard to communication interception. See,

http://www.nap.edu/readingroom/books/cricis/D.txt

264.13-4: "457, 467 megahertz": ???

266.13: "Fred and Ginger": Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers starred
together in a number of musicals during the thirties and forties (such
as 'Swing Time' and 'Top Hat'). Fred now sells vacuums.

266.16: "yu Jen, or the Fool": Does anyone have a definition for the
kunoichi? I have a suspicion that it means "angels of death." As with
GR, the protagonist ( if we accept that that is what Frenesi is) is
associated with the Fool.

266.31-2: "the great Ventura … Olympic visitors": Ventura Avenue. The
Olympics were held in LA 28 July to 12 August 1984.
