Yes, it is odd. Not yet a full-fledged sadism that would involve the
infliction of pain on the immediate love object. Rather a juvenile form of
the "perversion" as we would expect to find in a still essentially
innocent or naive person. Is Frenesi, too, still at a stage in her
erotic development not yet sure of whether she is the inflictee or the
inflictor? Is this a factor in her, and consequently our, confusion?
Is Frenesi a child? Are all of them children. Maybe Pointsman's children.
