Thanks, bek, for the reference which I of course immediately checked out.
Based on a quick read of the first few paragraphs (it's a fairly extended
piece and the joke quickly gets awfully thin) PW is having a little
inside laugh based on the fact that as everyone who counts has long
known "Trevanian" is a label that has been attached to a diverse variety
of pot boiled fiction. 

Somehow the writing (PW's, that is, not Trevanian's) reminds me of
our newly found Eurydice who I fear is not my and Richard's Lost
Eurydice.
