Does Frenesi lead a charmed life. Maybe or maybe not. One way of looking
at things is that EVERYBODY leads a charmed life. Weed though dead is for
all practical purposes still alive (as a thanatoid) and this generalized
exemption from the ultimate sanction for fucking up the detail may be so
prevalent in this maddening book that we become habituated to some kind of
crazy dispensation in which, whatever foolish enthusiasm of the day
we decide to buy into or ass-saving expedient we resort to, there isn't
going to be any permanant serious consequence to speak of anyway. In
other words, experience is all pretty generic and can easily be recycled
one more time into some new foolishness (or at least turned into a movie)
with the only worrisome consequence being that (natch) entropy in the
system is rising to an alarming level. Thank you, Professor of
Entropology, Herr Doctor Pynchon. But we still love you.
To paraphrase (maybe inadvisedly) a famous Russian writer, without death
there is no God.
