For anyone interested, the fiction-writing computer I was seeking an
article about is named Brutus.1 and is under the care of Selmer Bringsjord
at RPI. Thanks to James for finding the reference.

Incidentally, Paul said:

>the trick in AI reaseach in general and story
>generation in particular is always to limit the "domain" as much as
>possible so that the intra- and interpersonal behavior of the
>characters won't be too complex to handle.

The trick Bringsjord is using is not far from this; he and his fellow
researchers wer able to develop a mathematical definition of "betrayal,"
which the computer was taught. (Betrayal is currently its only conceptual
formation, however.)

Bringsjord's web site is at http://www.rpi.edu/~brings/. Follow the link
to the Tech Review for an article about the project.

Thanks again.

K.
