NP book web sites, mailing lists, etc?

Dear P-list colleagues,
Please forgive this off-topic post, but I hope some of you can help me. I'm
doing some editorial consulting for a new Web site that will, among other
things, help people find one another based on their mutual interests in
books and literature. I'm helping to set up profiles, or categories, that
will help them sort themselves out by preferences, and I'm gathering
resources to help define those categories.
There are lots of web sites, email discussion groups, chat rooms, etc.,
where people can get information about specific authors and genres, and
discuss books and literatures (Pynchon-L, Gaddis-L are examples). I'm also
looking for non-Internet resources (clubs, organizations and associations,
events, magazines, etc.). I'd very much appreciate it if any of you could
pass along to me your favorite examples of these resources. I've got some
in mind, of course, but I'd love some suggestions from our erudite and
eclectic merry band.
I'm also looking to interview someone who can talk about the way people
organize social activities and interactions around their interests in books
and literature (and the topic areas I've listed below). If anybody is
interested in discussing this with me off-list, please let me know.
I'm also looking for similar resources (Internet and others, as I explained
above) for some other topic areas:
Inline Skating
Arts & Culture (big area, I know; I've got to break it down into smaller
categories, an interesting exercise in taxonomy if nothing else)
Health & Fitness
Television
Gardening
Thanks,
Doug
