It's not clear exactly what Uncle Lyle's local hustle was that made him
a "regional Jim Fisk" [285.37], but Fisk was known for his schemes to
eliminate competition by (with Jay Gould) hoarding gold and shady stock
dealings.  We can assume that in addition to Uncle Lyle's dealings with
Stinnes in Germany that he was also into more than just the paper
business in his hometown area and he probably also made sure that the
Slothrop Paper Company procured all the best supply contracts.
