I read an earlier version of this fine translation and recently got the
1992 Random House Modern Library update, which is still further improved.
Supposedly Scott Moncrieff wasn't that adept at French slang and street
talk and this has now been remedied. The latest is now called In Search of
Time Lost. 

I put my college French to use also. Have several of the volumes including
the first and last. Amazing how one can read along if one has almost
memorized the English.
