  According to Bruno Latour's actor/network theory, a much debated approach in  
  the contemporary sociology of technology, humans and non-human artefacts can  
  both be observed as symmetric "actants" (- Aktanten) in a "socio-technical    
  network". Visitor + Automatic Door Opener = Entrance Machine.
