----------
(281.28) Signs will find him here in the Zone, and ancestors will reassert
themselves. It's like going to that Darkest Africa to study the natives
there, and finding their quaint superstitions taking you over.
----------

Slothrop is being "taken over," but, unlike Pointy, he is an active
passenger. He approaches and backs off from the Impossible. Slothrop is
seeing the world through the eyes of a primitive, one who looks for messages
from the numinous of daily life. Is this Devolution? Is he becomming a
Sensitive to Nature? Are these two synonomous? I don't think so... No.
Yes. No.

Slothrop's ancestors were prone to God's messages via the analog of
"Every-Day Experience." The Word (Abstraction(Reduction or Elevation?)) was
enthroned by their God. Logos.

Word-prone sensitivity employs the parable, the analogy, the simile.
Abstractions: This =(=or-) That. There will always be a grasping for (or
god-pushing of) Significance. Thus my question: "Sensitive" or "Willfull?."
  From whence commeth the message?
