does the building in the picture at:

remind anyone else of their version of the "White Visitation"?
there was an excellent episode of Nova on PBS recently about the code-breakers
at Bletchley.
lots of *double*-stuff involved in the breaking of the Enigma Machine. also,
lots of the colors red and green.
(i still wonder if the sequence of non-grammatically capitalized letters in
Pynchon's books isn't some sort of coded message...).
a-and... the code used by the nazi high command for their fancier Lorenz
encryption engines was called "Fish Code" (shades of Pisces!) by the
Bletchley-ites (who were about as diverse a crowd as their (possibly) GR
counterparts).
funny thing though - the cryptography work carried out at Bletchley Park was a
(possibly the) top allied secret and remained so long after WWII ended because
it assumed an even more central role during the cold war. what records hadn't
been destroyed remained classified until after GR had been written.
(but so was Mk Ultra... wasn't it?)
