I learned a somewhat intriguing ergot fact today, while I was eating
dinner (quesadillas de cuitlacoche) at a Mexican restaurant with my
friend Pierre, who is a biochemist. Cuitlacoche is a mold that blooms on
ears of corn; Pierre told me it is a species of ergot. Sadly it does not
induce hallucination, paralysis or gangrene.

And over the village slipped the days,
passing into the nights; the weeks flowed by,
the months crept on, the wind howled,
and, glassified with an autumnal, translucent,
greenish-azure, the Don flowed tranquilly
down to the sea.
