At least, for me, it indicated a consistency in the structure of the
universe... Even after death, there are still the machinations, the
organizations, the manipulations- secrets, power stuggles, structures.  The
solution to the problem of living wholly in the moment, or outside of the
structure, is not death.  Death simply changes some of the characters, the
dynamic is the same.  Slothrup's solution is not encompassed by simply dying.

PS  Plus the sheer melodramatic flavor- so typical of the supernatural set,
if you will, is great fun.
