Or, he teaches his readers to think for themselves about issues which
have already been promulgated as truths by systems of religion, history,
science et. al. In doing this he crosses the frontier of what fiction is
supposed to be about, and repudiates the place it has been allocated
(beside basketball and ice-skating, obviously) in late capitalist
culture.
