two possibilities spring to mind -
a) if Jamf, a master-chemist-to-be after all, had stumbled upon the lysergic
acid diethlyamide molecule years before Sandoz (Hoffman et al) and used it in
his conditioning of young TS - then there wouldn't be any conflict with the
1939 date - wouldn't it be possible that Imipolex G - which TRP describes as (or
maybe hints at) having a polymerized-lsd structure - so it would make sense for
Jamf to have discovered it early on in his chemistry career as a pre-cursor to
his later space flight material - could have an odor suggestive of lsd (although
yes, the presence of any detectable odor from lsd would indicate that the good
Doktor would have had to put truly monumental doses of vitamin L in baby
Slothrop's formula)?

b) the swath of Imipolex G (assuming that it *was* Imipolex G and not lsd - see
above) that Jamf used for tickling Slothrop
could be analogous to the fur boa in the Infant Albert (?) experiment that
someone cited a while back.
