GRGR(11) - Roland Feldspath

Roland Feldspath contacts, or maybe is summoned by, Slothrop.  Whichever, 
Roland is said to hover for "personal reasons."

As he reaches across the void, "Roland shivers. Is _this_ the one?" (238.27) 
  It seems there is a purpose for this contact, which Roland's not sure 
Slothrop's able to carry out: it's to charm away storms or monsters of the 
Aether.

Next we learn "If they get this far he has to tell them what he knows about 
Control." (238.30)  Q: Why does he have to?  A: "It's one of his death's 
secret missions."  Secret from whom?  And who sent him on this mission?

So, Roland leaves a funny taste in Slothrop's mouth, which is intended to 
teach  Slothrop all that Roland knows about Control, which will somehow 
enable him to charm away storms and monsters of the Aether.  It seems 
Slothrop has a secret mission also...
