The visitors: They seem, actually, to be protectors. They show up on his
first night away from the Casino, locked in his room alone, not yet free.
They are on the other side of the door, which stays locked.

---------
(255.18) Drunks come to the door, drunks and revenants.
---------

Dumpster Villard, cold and come a long way. Murray Smile, serial # only two
digits from Slothrop's, saying, "You don't have to go back." Jenny, whose
block was hit, whom Slothrop meant to "go back" and check on, but, it's
alright, "just don't go back to them." Katje and Tantivy too, just around
the corner, behind that door.

Others will show up later, when needed, to give Slothrop a small nudge.
Richard Halliburton is next (266.10), "There's nowhere to go, Slothrop,
nowhere," and that JUST when our hero is contemplating taking Squalidozzi's
money and _running_, even as far as deepest, darkest Africa! Slothrop's
trapped in some sphere in which he must DEAL: There's no place (which you
can't get back to) like Home. Shit! That means he's gotta deal with the
Here and Now (A-and Fuck Death!)!!!
