I'm really lagging behind. Sorry. But just a little sidestep.

While following the above thread, I was struck by a Pythagorean 
notion concerning this DeLillo-Pynchon thing and that repetition 
of number thirteen in _Underworld_. Someone may have come up with 
this before. Anyway:

Donald DeLillo = 6 + 7 = 13
Thomas Pynchon = 6 + 7 = 13
William Gaddis = 7 + 6 = 13

This may be DeLillo's way of referring to the kinship between him 
and the usual suspects. (Off the top of my head, it seems to be 
quite uncommon among American writers to have names that contain 
13 letters -- esp. among those who were alive when _Uw_ came out.) 
Still, IMHO, DeLillo has never become a peer of Pynchon and Gaddis.
