high vs. low

I am studying GR in school these days, and what seems extremely interesting 
to me (among other things) is the apparent merger between the high culture 
of the rocket and the war and such, vs. the low culture of television, 
movies, and comic books.  If anyone could steer me in the direction of some 
obscure examples of this in GR I would be greatful.
