Greetings--it's good to have a new arrival with so much curiosity and
initiative . . . your questions about the Family Jules bring up a long
history which those on the list longer than I've been may not want to
revisit.

Re Andrew's web site--this was a wonderful service which unfortunately
had to be closed when he changed jobs, a little after the IPW
(International Pynchon Week--another interesting story there). You can
find the list archives going back some distance at
http://waste.org/mail/ . I did a quick search on "Jules Siegel" and
turned up 1307 references (didn't read them all). Probably there would
be more with "Jules," "Siegel," "Lineland," and many insults of your
choice.

I missed most of the Lineland hubbub, only chiming in when JS asserted
that anything sent by e-mail to a list was in the public domain and
therefore fair game to be printed in his book--what I believe to be an
untenable position, as these I believe to be more in the nature of
correspondence than publication, and even if they were seen as
"published," that doesn't mean they can be reprinted without permission.
(I will leave it to others to summarize the exchanges, if they
wish--more fun to work with talking dogs and mechanick ducks.)
