Post-Chicks

Rikki Ducornet would be my first recommendation. She has five novels
(my favorites are _The Stain_ and _Entering Fire_ . There is another
due in November, which was previewed in Conjunctions) and two volumes
of short stories (_The Complete Butcher's Tales_, _The Word Desire_)
all of which I have enjoyed.

Also, Rebecca Brown has written several excellent volumes of short
stories which may or may not qualify as post-modern, and several
novels which (by my impression) do. Her earliest novels are my
favorites, _The Haunted House_ and _The Children's Crusade_, but they
aren't in print, as far as I know, though Powells (mentioned
elsewhere on the list) usually has a couple of copies around. Be
warned though, there is another Rebecca Brown, M.D. who writes some
bizarre sounding christian stuff that I have not read but I don't
think that I would.

After that, Angela Carter and Kathy Acker have already been
mentioned. I see that Jeanette Winterson is not regarded favorably
hereabouts, but I would recommend _The Passion_ anyway. Susan
Daitch's _L.C._ I liked a lot, though her other novel didn't impress
me. Eurudice's _F/32_. Some Carole Maso.

Hope that helps,

Mark
