I say:
If one wanted to say that INFINITE JEST was one of the more important
novels of the 90s, along the lines of "Hitler was one of the more important
politcal leaders of the 30s," I could understand that - However, IJ
wouldn't count as one of the best novels of the 90s even if it were the
ONLY novel of the 90s - IJ is not literature or even prose; it is an
artifact
